Membership in the River View chapter of the National Honor Society is determined by the student’s consent, the student’s grades, the student’s activities, the student’s service, the student’s conduct record and faculty recommendations.  Students become eligible for membership during their junior or senior year.

The dues are $25.00.  These are collected the year the student is inducted into the National Honor Society.  These dues are non-refundable, even if the student is dismissed.

The four pillars of the National Honor Society are Character, Scholarship, Leadership, and Service. Members whose actions violate any of these pillars will be called in front of the NHS Faculty Council to explain their actions. If a student does not maintain an accumulative 3.40 grade point average, he or she is given a probationary warning.  Upon the second occurrence, he or she will be dismissed from the National Honor Society.  Other grounds for dismissal include violation of school rules or civil laws.  Examples include, but are not limited to, cheating, plagiarism, or suspension from school or school related activities.

A hearing must be conducted by the NHS Faculty Council to dismiss a member.  The member shall have the right to a hearing before the Faculty Council.  The member may be dismissed by a majority vote of the Faculty Council.

A member who has been dismissed may appeal the decision of the Faculty Council under the same rules for disciplinary appeals as appearing in the River View Board of Education Handbook.
